Common names: Zebra Caterpillar

Scientific name: Ceramica picta

Region: This caterpillar is found throughout North America.

Life cycle: This insect produces one generation each year and overwinters as a pupa.

Physical Description: This caterpillar is black with yellow longitudinal stripes on both sides and many thin yellow lines, and is covered with fine hairs

Feeding characteristics: This pest attacks many garden vegetable as well as several orchard crops by feeding on the foliage but rarely do serious damage.

Controls: Controls are usually not necessary, but handpicking is a good line of defense against pests like this one.
